Medication-Assisted Recovery (MAR)

Medicated-Assisted Recovery (MAR) is the use of FDA-approved medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a "whole-patient" approach to the treatment of substance use disorders.

What is MAR?

Our behavioral health services lay the groundwork for lasting change. However, sometimes it takes more than talk therapy to initiate that transformation. Medication-assisted recovery, or MAR, combines pharmacological support with counseling to help individuals struggling with a substance use disorder. Our compassionate staff administer MAR with several goals in mind, including: - improve patients chances of healing - increase treatment retention - prevent illegal opioid use - teach patients how to live productive lives once treatment ends.

What should I expect?

  • You can expect frequent visits and support from our behavioral health staff and medical provider. These visits include individual and group counseling and case management.
  • Patients are evaluated for medically managed withdrawal before beginning the new medication.
  • Patients are educated on how their new medication works, the risks and benefits and opioid addiction.
  • An individual treatment plan will be created which includes medications, counseling and other supportive services.

Can drug addiction be treated?
Yes, but it’s not simple. Because addiction is a chronic disease, people can’t simply stop using drugs for a few days and be cured. Most patients need long-term or repeated care to stop using completely and recover their lives. Due to the symptoms of withdrawal and the psychological grip heroin has on its users, a professional treatment center usually offers the best chances of a successful recovery. Medical management is important in helping wean individuals off opioids by helping to reduce cravings and prevent future use.
